Adaptive cross approximation in higher dimensions

We present and analyze several new schemes for the approximation of functions of three, four and more variables by sums of products of univariate functions. The presented methods are generalizations (each in its own sense) of the Adaptive Cross Approximation (ACA) initially designed to approximate bivariate functions. A characteristic property of the presented techniques is that functions are approximated by its restrictions to lower-dimensional domains.
